Sam Houston (1793-1863) was a pivotal figure in American history. He served as a U.S. Representative and Governor for Tennessee. After moving to Texas, he led the Texas Revolution, securing its independence from Mexico in 1836. As the first elected President of the Republic of Texas, he later facilitated its annexation to the United States. Houston also served as a U.S. Senator and Governor for Texas. His legacy is deeply entwined with the formation and development of Texas.
