A Tribute to Courage Monument

The “A Tribute to Courage” monument is a towering statue of Sam Houston, located in Huntsville, Texas. Standing at a height of 67 feet (20 meters), this impressive sculpture was built in 1994 by renowned artist David Adickes. Constructed with steel and concrete, it weighs approximately 25 tons. Situated at the Sam Houston Statue Visitor Center in Huntsville, the monument is visible to motorists traveling north on Interstate 45. It holds the distinction of being the ninth-tallest statue in the United States.

The Sam Houston Monument is an impressive outdoor bronze sculpture located at the northwest corner of Hermann Park in Houston, Texas. Created by artist Enrico Cerracchio, the equestrian statue was constructed in 1924 and dedicated on August 16, 1925. Depicting Sam Houston atop his horse, the monument stands approximately 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall, with dimensions of 20 feet by 20 feet by 9 feet (6.1 meters by 6.1 meters by 2.7 meters). Sam Houston is portrayed wearing military attire and a long cape, with a beard and his right arm pointing forward.

This bronze monument, titled “You Shall Hear Of Me,” by acclaimed sculptor Wayne E. Hyde, stands as a majestic tribute to the legendary figure, Sam Houston. Located at the Maryville Municipal Center in Maryville, Tennessee, the monument portrays a youthful Sam Houston at age 19, capturing his strength, excitement, hope, and eagerness as he embarks on his journey into history. Adorned with his late father’s rifle, a pipe tomahawk, and a treasured book tucked into a traditional Cherokee sash, Houston’s spirit is beautifully captured in bronze. The monument highlights a key moment from Houston’s life in Tennessee, including his time spent living with the Cherokee Indians and his teaching career.
